Meaningful Use Success Stories
Meaningful use has opened my eyes to make my medical records more up to date, accurate and clear. Practice Fusion makes it simple to accomplish wherever and whenever we make a fault. Kudos to Practice Fusion- way to go!

Orthopedic Hand Surgeon - 25 minutes for attestation... which of course would have taken over 25 hours of data collection if it wasn't for PF. Their dashboard not only kept us on track, but allowed us to be nimble week to week to change our workflow to meet the criteria needs. It was fun to sign on every morning and see how much closer we were to obtaining our goal. I have found that my patients feel we are doing a much better delivery of medical care, keeping track of their meds/allergies and vitals compared to any other caregivers they go to. They love to have their vitals checked every week (what orthopedists even does that these days?) and have that information plotted weekly during their postop visits. I just wish CMS gave us a chance to fill out a survey of how satisfied we as doctors, and our patients are with our EHR... that is national data that they should use, not to mention allow PF to get all the accolades its hardworking teams deserve. Thanks PF!

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the account managers and support staff. I have been so stressed over Meaningful Use as we are a two employee office and this money will go to good use (computers with more than 1 gig). Thank you all for the free program and the endless help you provide, attestation took 35 minutes, all done! I also work part-time for a doctor from home. With her I use Centricity and their MU is reports only!!! It is a pain in the and makes me truly appreciate PF so much for the tools they gave us for MU.

Dr Brown heard about Meaningful Use from another physician and we thought why not. While the webinars are informative, I would say the most helpful resource has been the dashboard. It is very useful in tracking where you are and where your improvements need to be to stay on track. I would check it every morning. By utilizing this feature and establishing a work flow we were able to attest in the 90% - 100% range on the majority of our measures. Overall I think practice fusion did a very good job making this new reporting process as painless as possible. I know it took a lot of time and effort and for that I thank you.

We also attested with Medicare this week. I went back on to the site today and it says we are locked for payment! Working out the workflow issues of entering the data was the hardest part. Once that was done, it all seemed to flow pretty easily. Thanks!

I am a solo practitioner with a vision ahead and so I thought it might be good to get some extra help in order to better serve the society. Practice Fusion made it easy to look at your target issues while doing Meaningful Use and also informed us what we had to achieve- especially in percentage values. I think the meaningful use has opened my eyes to make my medical records more up to date, accurate and clear. Practice Fusion makes it simple to accomplish wherever and whenever we make a fault. Kudos to Practice Fusion- way to go!

Attesting today for the incentive program. It has been nothing but good since I started using Practice Fusion on January 1, 2011. My billing company says she'll recommend the program to her doctors if I use this successfully for 6 months, well, it's almost been a year. A long road, but it has been worth it. Thank you.

In November of last year, after working in an employed position for 25 years, I ventured out on my own. I knew I wanted to start my new practice using electronic records but did not want to invest a lot of money at this stage of my career. I Googled "free emr", and I can’t believe how lucky I was. I found PF, and have been using it ever since. At the time I signed up, PF was not certified, but that didn’t really matter to me. I liked how easy it was to use, my office liked the easy scheduling function, and with only some minor changes in work flow, messy huge paper charts were transformed into electronics. So, the fact that I recently completed my attestation for meaningful use and expect to receive $18,000 is icing on the cake. Finally, I want to thank you for the Meaningful Use dashboard. We were able to assure compliance and easily fill out the forms when the 90 day period was complete.

I did my Attestation on 12/23- I want to thank you guys for the help! It was confusing but I got through it with your help! It took about 40 minutes and I had to get in touch with live chat but you guys were able to get me out of the problem I was in!! :) The Dashboard was a GREAT help! I don't know how would I had done it without it!!

Raymond Scalettar, MD
I am Raymond Scalettar, a rheumatologist practicing in Washington, DC. Before becoming a user and believer in Practice Fusion (PF) and its EHR solution, I believed that medicine was a full-time profession. What I mean is that caring for my patients essentially meant I was “on” 24/7 and “in” early every day and late every evening. Thanks to PF, while medicine remains my full-time profession (and my patients my full-time concern), it has simplified my life. I was a skeptic about the value of EHRs, since I have been a physician for many years, first in a large single specialty group practice which I began, and, more recently, as a solo practitioner. And I got along just fine, thank you, with paper files most of those many years. Or so I thought. But I am not a total dinosaur, having already successfully adopted electronic prescribing pre-PF. So, earlier in 2011, I did some research and attended some presentations on EHRs. This cautious exploration of the world of very expensive EHR solutions convinced that my long-standing resistance to conversion to a full electronic practice was not only unaffordable but would also require too much downtime by my practice administrator and me. Or so I thought. Then a medical colleague introduced me to PF. It sounded too good to be true. Comprehensive and certified? Easy to learn and use? Good technical support? And FREE? No way. Or so I thought. My wife challenged me in September 2011 to give it a try; after all, what did I have to lose? Besides, if I met, by the end of December 2011, all the criteria for Meaningful Use, I stood to earn the $18,000 that CMS was paying to doctors who hit that goal. In 4 months starting from ground zero. Not possible. Or so I thought. I have a dedicated practice administrator who, of course, knew nothing either about PF but she took on the challenge, as I did. We had the backing of the highly professional PF team, who heard from us regularly as we worked to master the software. And we also had the good fortune to learn of and have the total support of eHealthDC, a group paid (by Washington, DC with federal funds) to help practitioners find, implement and master EHR solutions. Along with the PF folk, our constant source of local guidance has been Billy Wolf, of eHealthDC. Fast forward to today. I have found that PF is a user-friendly system which I have begun to master and adapt to my own needs. I believe patients and healthcare will ultimately benefit from its existence. And the benefit to me personally? Freedom! I am gradually becoming free of the tyranny of paper. The unexpected bonanza for me has been that I no longer have to bring a briefcase of files home and/or stay late at night or run into the office on weekends to get my work done. I can leave the office and read documents, x-rays and laboratory reports at home. I now can complete charts in a leisurely fashion at my convenience. Since my multiple computers are on all the time, wherever I am, I can check my notes and reflect on my patients at leisure. As a solo practitioner, this is especially important as I can be in contact with my office and patients 24/7 (but not with the same 24/7 pressure I formerly was under). Finally, the price is right and I do not need to be absorbed and employed by a hospital network, but, instead, can call my own shots! Who would have thought? And PF has kept us on track with its gentle prodding, and invaluable reminders and tracking system. And PF reassured me, when my wife and I attended the November 2011 users’ meeting in San Francisco, that I was on track to achieve Meaningful Use. Was PF right? YES! On December 14 Billy Wolf informed me that, working with my practice administrator, they had just completed attesting to our achievement of Meaningful Use! In less than 4 months!! We are moving on to the 2012 challenge, but with much less trepidation than when we started. Oh, about the art of living. Whether traveling or at home, I can get my work done while enjoying a cup of coffee, watching TV or listening to music. PF’s EHR solution has allowed me to improve my personal life. A true win-win. Clearly this would not have been possible without the help we got from PF. So, to the entire PF team, I say THANK YOU. You made it possible! While I certainly was skeptical about EHR, it has made my life easier. I now am a convert and a true believer. (And, with all my free time, I just might start taking piano lessons.) Who would have thought!

Did my attestation on December 12, took me about 45 minutes. The dashboard is the key . That was a big help and has most of the information needed. Thanks to the Practice Fusion team.
-
Archana Goel, MD
I completed our attestation on December 20th without any hiccups and got a confirmation email from CMS the next day. The entire process was rather uneventful! (that is great). The MU dashboard from PF was especially helpful in plugging the numbers on the CMS web site. Looking forward to the well deserved check!

I want to thank the staff at Practice Fusion for your help and for making the Meaningful Use attestation opportunity available. If funds do become available the first choice is to get some needed hardware such as iPads, to increase access and mobility and then update printers and PC stations. I heard about Practice Fusion after being approached by the local university tech. staff who had contracted to help get guys like me to go EHR with federal grant funds. I was real sure I could not afford an in-office system with software and server... and they eventually after several go rounds recommend PF. I had read about the incentive program in my medical newsletters but the dollars and cents did not add up well until PF was found to be available. When opportunity knocked, I decided to open the door and the journey continues, so far, for the better. The most helpful resource has been the instruction videos and the intuitive program to be used.

Thank you Practice Fusion. I completed my attestation yesterday and am looking forward to seeing how PF evolves over the coming year. So far, you have exceeded my expectations.

Our practice just opened in February of 2011. Unfortunately, we had one of the expensive monstrosities of an EMR that promised easy Meaningful Use and a full reimbursement, even though going through all that seemed way over complicated. As a new practice with tons going on, we didn't have a ton of time to devote to figuring out how to attest and make it MU work. By September of 2011, we had to cut our losses with that lug of a program that never really worked well, much less led us to anything with Meaningful Use. So we switched to Practice Fusion, and I seriously thought we were out our meaningful use money for this year cause it was so late in the year. To our pleasant surprise, a month later we discovered the PF Meaningful Use dashboard, and to our surprise, it wasn't too late, and it didn't look too difficult due to the great mini-videos showing you how to attest. We attested last week and it was so easy.

My practice is just starting so I plan to use the incentive money to pay off the loan I had to take out to start the practice. I heard about Meaningful use from Practice Fusion and Medicare at about the same time. I think the Action Plan has been very helpful. My practice has met all 20 requirements at this time, now we just have to submit the info to Medicare. Thanks for your help. PS: I am always plugging Practice Fusion with other providers. I think it is a great product.

The stimulus money will go to pay office expenses. We get a lot of snow here so our patient load drops off in the winter. I learned about the stimulus program while at a continuing education seminar last year. The most helpful part of Practice fusion has been having the Meaningful Use Specialist and the rest of the support team there answering all my questions. Once again thanks for all your help and I look forward to working with you for next phases of meaningful use.

I just finished my attestation this morning at 2:00 a.m. Took me over 2 hours to finally press the last button. Why did it take me 2 hours? I kept going back and forth expecting that I did something wrong because it was too easy with Practice Fusion’s step-by-step instructions! I expected some evil CMS twist to happen but attestation was accepted. If I wasn't so dang insecure (or sleepy), I would have complete the process in 20 minutes like everyone else! Need to stop staying up so late and worrying about CMS. I'm going to sleep now. Thanks you very much Practice Fusion staff for everything! Looking forward to Connect 2012 and thank all of you

Just received my submission receipt for my "Accepted Attestation" today. Great day and now I can relax a little. Thanks PF! It took about 2 hours and would have taken less but it was rejected the first time. I panicked but found I had a typo in the smoking number and left off the 1 from 177 so it made my percentages too low. I recommend to other users that to look at all your responses over before hitting the final send button - avoid the mistake I made. They give that opportunity at the end.

The Meaningful Use dashboard is the easiest way to check off and make sure we completed all the steps of the Meaningful Use criteria. You guys are great!

The most helpful Meaningful Use resource from Practice Fusion is you and the whole Practice Fusion Team including Dr Robert Rowley! During each step of the process, you know someone is always available either by email, phone, live chats, webinars and tutorials. My questions and concerns were always addressed and helpful links provided for a better understanding of how to perform a specific task. I especially enjoyed Dr Rowley's discussions as he used his own real-life experiences and gave suggestions on how to implement them in our own practice. Thank you to everyone and keep up the good work!!

I heard about the incentive program through CMS. I started doing my search back then. I had a lot of demos with different companies. No company was able to convinced me. I then found Practice Fusion through the internet. At the beginning I did not believe it. It was too good to be true. Then I spoke over the phone with another podiatrist friend of mine who practices in Alabama. She told me that your program was good and REAL!!! Since then, I have been using it and I do not regret it. I am very happy with the program and your staff. We have to thank our Account Manager, Matt and Practice Fusion for all the help you guys have provided us. You guys have the best program out there and it is for free. Practice Fusion support and the Meaningful Use Dashboard has helped us a lot.

We completed the attestation this morning. It took about 40 minutes and all the info was provided by Practice Fusion. We had printed out a dashboard report at the beginning of the week and used that since we had no additional info entered in the EMR after that. I loved the step-by-step attestation guide that Practice Fusion has on their website. I kept going back and forth from the CMS site to the guide. Got the confirmation and it was a great way to end our year. Off for vacation now!

With my Meaningful Use incentives I plan to reinvest in office equipment for patient diagnostics and care. Direct contact with Practice Fusion support has been helpful. Most challenging obstacle to overcome is achieving Meaningful Use as a solo practitioner, rather than having the entire practice input counted, i.e., data entered by an MA or other provider is not counted for the practice.

Just wanted to thank the PF team for making Meaningful Use attestation for us so easy! I have been following your posts and tips and completed our attestation fairly quickly! Had it not been for your help it would not have been so easy!

We completed the attestation for 2011 and relied heavily on Practice Fusion in our daily practice. All the account managers as well as technical support made this a very easy transition! I cannot believe our good fortune in using Practice Fusion. We used another EMR many years ago and it was a horrible experience, so we were reluctant to try again. We are so glad we did! Thanks for everything!

I attested for the Medicare EHR incentive program today! So glad to be done with it! It was not quite as onerous as I had assumed it would be. Thank you Practice Fusion for your helpful guidance and of course your free EHR!

We will use our stimulus money to do several things- make office improvements, purchase more computers so every staff member has a work station, employee bonus', and reinvest in patient care. Our account manager, Naushad Godrej, has been the most helpful resource to establishing MU with Practice Fusion. He was always available to answer any and all questions we had (and I had a LOT!). He was always patient and if he didn't know the answer, he would find it out for me. We knew we could always count on him to be helpful, knowledgeable, and prompt in his replies. We attested yesterday....and PASSED!!!!! Thank you so much for all your help with this first phase of establishing Meaningful Use. We appreciate it so much.

Received my "Accepted Attestation" print-out after entering all data from Practice Fusion. Overall, it went smoothly and I am so grateful that PF is there. Thanks PF for all your hard work. Good Luck to everyone else!

I went ahead with the attestation which I believe was successful. We are a small office and the implementation and time has been a burden, but I am extremely happy we are participating. Everything about the Practice Fusion program made achieving Meaningful Use easier to accomplish. From the "Live in 5", to the "YouTube tutorials" to the "Meaningful Use Dashboard". It was all a package that I would not been able to utilize without all these components. When the Meaningful Use Dashboard can on-line, we were able to tell where we were however; until then I felt like we were making progress but had no yardstick by which to measure our progress. I think the program is terrific and I cannot wait to have the program, myself and office staff effortlessly and automatically integrate all aspects of the program to its fullest capacity. It has also been my pleasure to have participated in some of the eRX sessions provided by Practice Fusion. The process gave me a better understanding of what everyone on your end has to deal with. I think the doctors have the better end of that deal! Another huge asset in using Practice Fusion has been my Account Manager, Lisa! She was always available by phone or email in a prompt, courteous and extremely helpful manner and we can't thank her enough. I look forward to working with you on an ongoing basis. Thanks for everything.

Today we completed our 90 day attestation period! WooHoo! With PF it was so easy to see where we were at in the process and where we needed to step it up a bit. My peers who are using expensive EMR's don't have any idea how they are doing on meeting their criteria. Thank you PF for making our lives easier in general and for making the Meaningful Use issue so easy to navigate!

I'm a psychiatrist and did the attestation in about 45 minutes. The hardest part was the very end of the attestation where you had to pick additional clinical quality measures and do the numerators and denominators. As a psychiatrist, I don't do a lot of the items listed such as the diabetic foot exam or retinal exam. Overall, it went smoothly and am so grateful that Practice Fusion is there.

I worked with a small private practice in Rome, NY to qualify for MU for 2011- it was one heck of a ride! We got great advice and information from multiple sources, but Practice Fusion led the way for us! We attended Connect 2011 in San Francisco and the event was spectacular! Got great information from the PF team, and our account manager was totally on his game. From questions to drug-drug interactions to the many adventures with Templates. We went through the highs and lows of adopting EMRs, yet from the past several months we've pushed through and the doctors are very happy with PF's guide to MU. We've attested 2 days ago, and all our fingers are crossed!

I recently completed the Federal Attestation program. The Practice Fusion program was essential to my efforts. Initially I had great difficulty understanding what the program wanted and how to achieve compliance. The material on the Federal contractor sites was just unsatisfactory By contrast the online video clips that Practice fusion provides were very easy to understand and completely to the point. After the first 3 longer segments there are a host of 1-2 minute segments that are excellent at explaining the details of each requirement. A particularly onerous issue is the long list of items that have to be satisfied. The Practice Fusion material was excellent at breaking this into manageable bits that appeared achievable. Finally the Practice Fusion program made it relatively easy to perform the necessary chores while the software kept track of the achievements. The meaningful use dashboard was just wonderful, and simple to understand. It warned me when I was falling behind the goals. It responded very quickly when I changed my routine and started to comply with the prerequisites. Then there was the Email program of instructions that would appear in my Inbox every 2-3 days with directions to keep pace with the goals and warnings when I fell behind. In all the Practice Fusion software excelled at making an impenetrable Federal program understandable and relatively easy to satisfy in the course of normal data entry during the day’s work.

The MU Dashboard provided by PF has definitely been the most helpful. Not only to see the numbers, but also to click the links to find out more info if needed. Live Chat has also been helpful, but the Dashboard has been the most useful on a day-to-day basis. Knowing that I could also speak to you about specific problems also helped me work through most of the rough patches. Have not completed the attestation yet, but now know I have the numbers to do so. Thank you very much for helping me through this process. I appreciate all of your advice.

It is a great experience with electronic record use with Practice fusion. It’s a great opportunity to use new technology and give us a chance to update our practice with current the trends and is very useful in upgrading patient care with the help of the incentive program.

On Jan 5th 2011, my practice colleagues and I listened to a slick presentation by a vendor of Lytec MD about how their EMR would enable all of us to capture thousands of Federal incentive dollars while at the same time making our practices efficient and help us see more patients and generate increased reimbursement revenue. The price tag for this utopia was $35,000/- for the 3 of us. If we added hardware costs and service contracts the total cost of ownership in the 1st year was $ 45,000/- (OR $ 15,000/- per doctor!!!!). I was the lone dissenter in that meeting because I had been researching Practice Fusion (I had not yet created my account) and I believed very strongly (fanatically according to my practice colleague!) that the SAAS model was the only way to go. I felt that PF's architecture was the easiest to implement and execute in a busy practice environment. I argued till I was blue in the face but the other doctors did not agree and they went ahead with the purchase of Lytec MD. I decided to hold back and continue my research on PF. The 3 of us were separate practices sharing common office space so this divergence in paths did not adversely affect our operations. On March 1st, 2011 I made the decision to register with PF. I sat my staff of three employees on March 4th and over a two hour period we collectively reviewed every training video that PF had online. On the afternoon of March 4th I extracted and uploaded the entire patient demographics of 6000 patients to the PF team in San Francisco. They would take a week to put it into PF. On Saturday March 5th, we went live 100% by putting every patient chart of the patients seen in our busiest Saturday Clinic on PF! We never looked back after that. All new encounters were done on PF from there onwards. We maintained our old records documenting services prior to March 5th on our old home-grown EMR system that I had been using on Microsoft OneNote 2010, and simply referred back to it whenever we needed old data. On March 7th, I put in my request for connectivity to LabCorp labs and this took exactly 6 weeks to be fulfilled (I believe this connectivity is now available within 1-2 weeks today). My staff would do a quick triage of the faxes received and weed out junk faxes and upload all other faxes into PF as documents for me to review & sign (the staff would associate the uploaded document to the specific patient chart).... I would review all documents in my inbox daily and call the patient or perform some action as needed and sign the document. My e-Rx capability was activated by March 10th and on March 11th, the PF support team finished uploading all the 6000 patient demos that I had sent them the previous week. By April 15th labs done through LabCorp was coming in as structured data directly into PF. We were all set. May 2011, PF got its certification and by June 2011 I had met the CMS criteria for E-Rx submissions enabling me to avoid the 3% penalties that would kick in the following year for those who failed this milestone. We started practicing our MU strategies from Aug 5th and by Sept 5th we had gotten the process down pat. On Sept 14th we registered our 90 day MU start period. We completed our 90 day reporting period on Dec 14th and yesterday I submitted the formal attestation to CMS.... We had met all the criteria and exceeded all of them by an average of 500% of what was asked!!! Finally I queried our billing system to review our Medicare Reimbursements for 2011 and suffice it to say that we are now fully eligible for the entire $18,000/- of the promised Year 1 incentive payment....WooooHoooo!!! There are 2 major contributors to this outcome: I have a staff of 3 dynamic ladies who really work as a team. Each one of them cross-trained in everyone else’s job to the level of 90% excellence in the non-primary function so that I had not 1 Front Desk, 1 Nurse and 1 Biller but instead 3 Front Desk persons, 3 Nurses and 3 Billers. This allowed for a unified team approach in transforming the practice environment. The quality of online support from the PF team was superb. My staff did their training using the videos on their down time and at home and by the end of the 1st month were real pro's at navigating the PF work environment. By contrast the following is what has been the unfortunate experience of my colleagues who elected the LytecMD vendor: 1. From Feb 2011 to present date they have experienced an average system slowdown or lack of connectivity of about 1 hr every week. 2. Their staff received no assistance in implementation of Meaningful Use benchmarks. They fumbled and puzzled their way through all of 2011 AND 3. As a result after spending nearly $38,000/- they will not be able to meet any MU criteria for the year 2011. They have been told by their vendor that they can start their reporting period on Jan 1, 2012 and still be eligible for the year 1 payment of $ 18,000/- at the end of 2012.... since they can claim 2012 as Year 1 of their EMR adoption. I do not know how valid that claim is. I bring this story to all of you not to brag but to let the PF team know simply how well they did their job and this spans from the training videos, to the MU Dashboard, the MU newsletter email blasts, the various tips and advice. If anyone says that only paid software systems provide service I would like to blast that lie out of the water by using our experience with PF, you guys are really making a game-changing environment and this is truly disruptive technology! THANK YOU!

I just completed the Medicare Attestation today. The Practice Fusion Account Manager, Albert Chen, was awesome in providing live support. The on-line programs were not particularly helpful. Practice Fusion I believe is the best due to the price and the company lived up to its word my meeting Meaningful Use. I hope Practice Fusion will be around for a very, very long time.

PF has created a remarkable platform that has successfully gotten me to fulfill meaningful use in year 1. I found the Meaningful Use dashboard and the shark demonstration presentations to be very helpful with the step by step instructions. Customer service is great. I have recommended PF to many of my colleagues as a way to get the stimulus money. Some of them who are in primary care have found it to be sufficient for all of their needs and they are sticking with PF even after getting their money.

Thanks to the hard work of the engineers, I am not only up and running again but was fully able to attest for this year!! Sweet.

Seema Munir, D.O.
As I was just starting my practice I wanted to do it right and learn as much as I could at an early stage. Meaningful Use was actually difficult for me initially because I started trying to understand what I needed to do as early as May. Quite honestly I was using other websites and was somewhat overwhelmed. As August came along it became so much easier with the PF videos and the Meaningful Use dashboard. The dashboard and the videos are excellent. They are concise and offer pertinent information. In addition calling or chatting has been very helpful.

Dr Sandberg did our attestation on a Monday morning before patients. It took about 30 minutes and most of the information was printed from the PF Meaningful Use dashboard and then transferred onto the attestation page. Easy Peasy. We are a two person office, too. Internal Med. Next stop? Kareo early next year. Thanks, PF!

I just received my accepted attestation! Thank you to Practice Fusion!!!! I know I would not have had the time or resources to do this without you!
