Medicaid Program Overview
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is currently incentivizing eligible providers to adopt and meaningfully use Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Eligible Medicare and Medicaid health professionals can earn thousands of dollars in incentives and avoid future penalties for not adopting health information technology.
You can use Practice Fusion’s free system to qualify for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentives program. Keep in mind that you are only eligible to participate in one program per calendar year and can switch programs one time.
Eligible Medicaid providers include:
- Physicians (primarily doctors of medicine and osteopathy)
- Nurse practitioners
- Certified nurse-midwives
- Dentists
- Physician assistants who furnish services in FQHCs or FHCs led by a physician assistant
Eligible providers must have 30% Medicaid patient volume or 20% Medicaid patient volume for pediatricians.
If you qualify, you will earn up to $63,250 over six years. See the six-year Medicaid EHR incentive timeline. Note: not all states have launched their incentive program. Find out if your state’s program has started.
During your first year in the program, you only need to adopt a certified EHR. Practice Fusion is fully certified and qualifies you for this program. During your second year in the program, you will need to satisfy fifteen core and five menu Meaningful Use criteria for 90 days. After your second year, you will need to satisfy core and menu criteria for a full year.
