How do I generate a patient record number?...
How do I generate a patient record number? How do I create a patient ID number? Can I automatically generate a chart number for a patient?
Practice Fusion expert answer:
When creating a patient's chart, or after the patient has been added, you can add a patient ID or chart number to a patient's chart. There are two options for this: manually creating a unique record number or enabling an auto-generated patient ID by Practice Fusion. To do either, open the patient's chart and select the Basic link on the left-hand side. From there, click the Edit button on the top of the page to either enter a patient ID number, or check the box generate record number. This will automatically create an ID number for the patient; note that the Patient record number field will be greyed out after checking this box. Be sure to click the Save button on the upper right-hand corner
Step-by-step instructions are as follows:
1. Access the Charts tab
2. Search for your patient on the left and open their chart (if you're unable to find the patient, please see the link below)
3. Select the Basic link on the left
4. Click the Edit button
5. Manually enter the record number, or check the generate record number box
6. Click the Save button
Also, keep in mind if you edit the patient's chart again and don't un-check that box, a new patient record number will be generated when you click 'Save'.
