Put Your Money Where the Tech Is

Those looking for new investment ventures should put their money where the success is flowing: healthcare.  A recent report published by Rock Health indicated that investments in digital health are taking a huge leap and are in high demand.

Rock Health used data from Capital IQ, CrunchBase, NVCA, Dow Jones Venture Source and surveyed 110 early stage digital health entrepreneurs. These studies showed that BC funding of healthcare technology has increased significantly in just a few years, from 2005 with a total of 52 deals to 2010 with a total of 138. Practice Fusion wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the gracious entrepreneurs who believed in a sector-changing product.

More than 70 percent of VC’s think healthIT investment monies will soar even higher in 2011 with 35 digital health companies already receiving more than two million dollars each. What are these companies building that keeps bringing the money? Consumer web sites (ex.healthTap), personal health monitoring systems, data analytics and sharing and physician social networks (ex. Sermo).  Practice Fusion was praised in Rock Health’s SlideShare presentation as one of the largest deals of 2011 due to our recent $23 million investment from Founders Fund, Artis Capital Management, Glynn Capital and Morgenthaler Felicis.

As stimulus monies begin to shell out, we’re going to see plenty of new and exciting deals be made and new products and companies come to life. Know a company to watch out for? Share here!
