New Study Reveals Patients Fear EHR Impact

Helping doctors overcome their fears and concerns of EMR adoption seemed like the biggest hurdle we’d face but now-a-days it’s not the doctors we need to win over but the patients. According to Xerox’s latest survey / infographic (see below), patients of doctors using EMRs need assurance and clear communication that their personal health information (PHI) is being protected and is safe and sound.

About 80 percent of survey respondents who voiced their digital concerns said their ultimate fear is to have their information stolen by a hacker. 64 percent said they fear their information is susceptible to getting lost or damaged and 62 percent say they fear misuse of their information.

While these are common misconceptions, doctors and medical providers need to reassure their patients that these fears are of no concern if they’re using secure web-based systems like Practice Fusion. Only 18 percent of healthcare providers have been  asked to discuss the digital record conversion- a conversation that would definitely ease most patients concerns.
