Ford Motor Co. has stepped up their car design and it’s more than just a touch screen display or a six CD changer, now they’re helping drivers manage their health with wellness in-car connectivity solutions.
Their mission is to empower patients by providing tools needed to maintain an active lifestyle with real-time health information, on the go, literally. Just like Practice Fusion’s EMR, Ford SYNC has the ability to connect to cloud-based internet services, Bluetooth and control smartphone apps, all powered through the vehicle’s display monitor. These voice-controlled in-car connections plug in to a variety of health services including glucose monitoring devices, diabetes management services, asthma tools and web-based allergen alert solutions. This means that the 26 million Americans living with Diabetes, who monitor their health condition several times a day, can now count on their car to not only get them to their destination but to monitor the state of their health anywhere, anytime.
“Ford SYNC is well known in the industry and with consumers as a successful in-car infotainment system, but we want to broaden the paradigm, transforming SYNC into a tool that can help improve people’s lives as well as the driving experience,” said Paul Mascarenas, chief technology officer and vice president, Ford Research and Innovation.
Guess Practice Fusion’s EMR isn’t the only thing to go web-based, cars are now taking it to the cloud to drive innovation (no pun intended) in the healthcare sector. It will interesting to see where they take their ideas in the future and just how successful this idea will be.
